Why not learn how to totally transform it into something beautiful and useful again., On this course at Tonbridge Adult Education you can learn a variety of traditional and modern upholstery techniques, using upholstery tools and materials. Starting with stripping back your chosen piece of furniture, then webbing it, stuffing it and finally giving it lease of new life with a beautiful new top fabric and trim., During the course beginners will learn how to, -Strip down a piece of furniture back to it's frame , -Select appropriate tools and use them safely, -Identify correct material for each stage of project, -Select correct tacks for each stage of project, , Improvers will work on a project of their choice suitable for their experience and develop the skills needed . , , A practical course for students to develop skills and work on projects of their own choice. Demonstrations and guidance on techniques will be given throughout the course. This course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience wishing to transform old pieces of furniture into a beautiful artefact with new life and looks , , It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. , , If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please speak to a member of staff before enrolling

Entry requirements

You should bring in a small item of furniture such as a drop in seat or pin cushion seat as a first project. , As well as your chosen piece of furniture, you will need to bring in a small hammer, a pair of pliers, scissors, notebook and camera or camera phone in order to record your work. Most Specialist materials are usually available to be purchased at class. A small charge of approximately £10.00 per term is made for tacks and string, Apart from pens and notebooks please do not buy books or equipment before the start of the course. Details will be discussed at the first session. . , Please ask before buying large pieces of furniture as there is limited storage space available in the centre and we cannot accommodate sofas or settees. Please note students can only store 1 small piece of furniture at the centre.
