If you want to upcycle a chair in your house, change fabric to suit your new decor or just enjoy giving furniture a new lease of life than this is the Upholstery course is for you. You will develop skills and work on projects of your own choice starting with a small item such as a stool first. Demonstrations and guidance on techniques will be given throughout the course including bridal loops, webbing, springing, blind stitching and the use of horse hair. By the end of the course you will be able to:, Use a web stretcher, Identify basic materials, Name and make two basic knots, Select the correct tack for an element of the project, Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines.,

Entry requirements

Please bring a dining chair or stool to your first class, plus a 4oz tack hammer, small pair of pliers, scissors, needle and cotton, pen and notebook. A Digital Camera will be useful if you have one. Please ask before buying large pieces of furniture as there is limited storage space available in the centre and we cannot accommodate sofas or settees. Apart from pens and notebooks please do not buy books or equipment before the start of the course. Details will be discussed at the first session. A small charge of approximately £10 per term is made for tacks and string. Most upholstery materials are usually available to be purchased at the centre., If you leave your Upholstery project in the centre you do so at your own risk.
