This course will familiarise you with using a sewing machine and introduce you to commonly used techniques for sewing and altering clothes. , You will start by making a bag and progress to a simple skirt. For those with some experience and those continuing from Clothesmaking Beginners Term 1, this course introduces new techniques and develops existing skills., , This 10 week course focuses on:, • understanding fabric types, • using a sewing machine to perform basic stitches, • understanding a shop bought pattern, • using a pattern to make a garment that fits, • practising a variety finishing techniques, • inserting zips, This class is ideal for absolute beginners or those who need some extra confidence to restart using the machine.

A folder or document wallet is useful to keep handouts. You may want to bring some paper to take notes during demonstrations. For the first class please bring a piece of fabric to make a bag - size: 100cm x 50cm. This could be cut from an old light weight curtain or cotton garment. You do not need to bring any special equipment to the first class. For subsequent classes you will be asked to bring a basic sewing kit. You will need to provide your own fabric and thread to make the garment, however, we advise you to complete the first week before purchasing any patterns or fabric., , Sewing Machines: Sewing machines are provided.
