Floristry - Flowers for Summer Parties

Summer is a time of floral abundance, so be creative and make two arrangements for your summer parties. Make a design for a Candlelit SupperTable and an Al Fresco Table Runner., By the end of the day you should be to:, • Create two differing style of floral arrangement s focusing on the use of summer flowers and foliage, • Develop a knowledge of the mechanics used to make the designs., • Show an understanding of the care and conditioning of plant material used., • Incorporate design elements within the arrangements produced, Everyone is welcome to join this course no experience of knowledge of the subject needed.

Entry requirements

Students need to provide their own plant material i.e. flowers and foliage, containers, mechanics, floral foam and accessories. Good scissors and secateurs, a notebook and pen, a table covering together with a camera/phone for recording your work. , Floral foam and basic mechanics are available to purchase in class., First Design: A Candlelit Supper Design, Container - a round ceramic plant pot approximate measurements 15cms (6") diameter and 13cms (5")deep, straight sides would be an advantage and a plastic plant pot saucer (not essential but helpful) which rests safely in the top of the pot. , A candle, tallish and slow burning. Cocktail sticks to secure., Plant Material:, Large leaves of sufficient number and size to cover all round the outside of the container,, along with additional foliage to cover the foam., At least three types of flowers of varying sizes sufficient to go round the floral foam in the saucer after a candle has been inserted into the centre. Summery flowers would be good., None of the plant material needs to have long stems., Second Design: Al Fresco Table Runner with a white and green colour theme, Container: a rectangular dish, available to purchase on the day approximately 23cms (9") x 10cms (4"), the size of a block of floral foam., Plant material: , Three types of flowers of differing sizes for example roses or lisyanthus, spray carnations or chrysanthemums, asters or gypsophila., Two or three types of foliage medium size, some smaller single leaves., , Equipment required Students need to provide their own plant material i.e. flowers and foliage, containers, mechanics, floral foam and accessories.
