The duration of this course is 18 months. BTEC Higher Nationals are vocational qualifications, designed to give you the skills to put your knowledge to effective use in the workplace. They are highly valued by employers and may be used towards gaining professional status. National Certificates (HNCs) are Level 4 qualifications (120 credits) which can be studied part-time. Study Modules: You will study 8 units which will include: Analytical methods, Engineering science, Business Management for Engineers, Project design, implementation and evaluation, Electrical and Electronic principles, Electrical and Electronic measurement and testing, Applications of power electronics and Instrumentation and control principles. By the end of the course you should be able to: Understand the principles of and carry out complex calculations in scientific and mathematical subjects with confidence, work independently on long term project & design work, use computer hardware/software to support other skills, have an awareness of management techniques and their relevance in an engineering environment and apply the above in a work situation. Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Modules will be delivered in a variety of ways suited to higher level study. Methods will include lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and independent research. Learning at level 4 and above is very focused on independent study, and students will be expected to take responsibility for their own learning. HNC's are normally studied over 1 1/2 years. However the modular content means you may take longer if this is appropriate for you. There are two modes of attendance: 'Day Release'. Currently you would be expected to be in attendance between one day per week. The first year runs on Thursdays and the second year runs on Tuesday. 'Evening only'. Attendance is on TWO evenings per week.
