This course has three pathways available to students. All students study a core of compulsory units in years 1 and 2, followed by a combination of compulsory and pathway units in year 3. Pathways available: Nuclear Decommissioning, Power Generation & Project Management. This course has been developed in conjunction with employers from the nuclear industry to support the national need to raise the skill levels of staff within the COGENT sectors. The course aims to deliver the particular educational needs identified by NSAN, COGENT, and representatives of the nuclear industries - engineering, management, personal skills and more specialised nuclear skills. This course is validated by the University of Central Lancashire. You will need to study a number of units in order to achieve a total of 240 credits. Some units are work-based therefore you will ideally need to be in relevant employment within the nuclear industry. The course is designed to run over three academic years. Study Modules: Level 4 Modules: Engineering Mathematics, Nuclear Fundamentals, Professional Development, Engineering Science, Management Technology for Engineers, Principles of Energy Systems Design Level 5 Modules: Industry-linked Project, Nuclear Fuel and Safety Management, Mathematics and Simulation Engineering Design, Business Improvement Techniques Plus: For the Power Generation pathway: Reactor Science and Technology For the Decommissioning pathway: Decommissioning and Waste Management For the Project Management pathway: Resource Planning and Project Control Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Modules will be delivered in a variety of ways suited to higher level study. Methods will include: lectures, seminars, tutorials and independent research. Assessment will be via the completion of a variety of assignments and examinations including the analysis and resolution of engineering-based scenarios as well as a portfolio of case work and reflective assignments.
