This course develops your ability to design and make products using a wide range of components and materials, including wood, metal and plastics. The emphasis is on the acquisition of knowledge based on practices and manufacturing techniques used in industry for the production of commercial consumer products. This will include the hands on hardware. Unit 4 coursework project differs from Unit 1 in that you have to identify a client for whom you will design a commercial product to meet the client's needs. You will need to liaise with them at various stages in the design process to confirm ideas and suitability of proposed product specification before production. A key feature of Unit 4 is to consider environment and sustainability issues for manufactured products. You will need to research and develop designs that you have selected.
