Why study Product Design (Edexcel)? Students are able to develop creative, practical and entrepreneurial skills and then use these to apply knowledge and understanding to a range of technological activities. The course will also develop critical thinking skills and improve their ability to analyse work and to work collaboratively as a team member to help improve their and others' design and manufacturing outcomes. A Level Design and Technology perfectly compliments Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Art and Design at AS or A2 Level, or can be used as a contrasting subject with English, History, Geography or Modern Languages. The course will provide candidates' with the ability to: - develop and sustain their own innovation, creativity and design capability and recognise constraints to produce high quality products. - develop a critical understanding of the historical influences in product design and the processes and manufacturing methods used that they can then apply to their current day practice. - apply essential knowledge, understanding and skills of design production processes to a range of technological activities and develop an understanding of industrial practices. - use ICT to enhance their design and technological capability. - develop an understanding of the social, moral, spiritual and cultural values inherent in the design world and develop their critical evaluation skills in technical, aesthetic, economic, environmental, social and cultural contexts. - develop as discerning consumers able to make informed choices - develop positive attitudes of co-operation and citizenship and work collaboratively.
