The study of Dance at Sixth Form will develop and extend your performance, choreographic and analytical skills. You will develop an appreciation of the diverse heritage of dance promoting spiritual, moral and cultural development. The course will encourage life-long learning and give you access to dance and dance-related interests and careers while fostering your imagination and creativity and promoting social and personal development. Who is the course for? - Students with a good dance background who wish to study dance in-depth - Students who want to acquire experience of choreography and performance and to engage in critical thinking about dance - Students who need a suitable foundation for study in higher education and for employment Entry Requirements - 5A* - C passes at GCSE. - It is highly recommended that students have taken the GCSE examination in this subject. The specifications are designed for students from any dance background who wish to study dance in depth. It is recognised that many people gain appropriate experience in dance outside the school curriculum. If GCSE has been taken, a Grade of A*- B is required. - You must be totally enthusiastic, committed and physically fit in order to meet the demands of this subject and you must be prepared to undertake extra-curricular dance classes outside of lessons to enhance your training. A LEVEL COURSE SUMMARY Component 1: Performance and choreography - Solo performance linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study - Performance in a quartet (in any style, relevant to the defined genres) - Group choreography - 50% of the A Level Component 2: Critical engagement - Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of a compulsory set work and its location within a corresponding area of study. - Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of one optional set work and its location within a corresponding area of study. - Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes - 50% of A-Level
