Philosophy and Ethics

Year 12 (AS) In Philosophy the course covers appreciation of ancient philosophical influences and evaluation of several classical arguments for the existence of God, questioning the authenticity of religious experience and exploring the challenge of the problem of evil. In Ethics normative ethical theories will be studied and applied to contemporary moral dilemmas along with the study of Buddhist ideas about human nature and sources of religious authority. Year 13 (A2) In Philosophy the course covers the nature of the soul, mind and body, the possibility of life after death, the nature of God and issues surrounding religious language. In Ethics the nature of ethical language will be analysed alongside debates surrounding conscience and free will, an exploration of the background of Buddhism and analysis of a range of Buddhist world views.
