French is a vibrant language spoken by over 300 million people all over the world and can open up many pathways: - Travel - If you want to venture beyond popular tourist resorts and hotels, to get to know the locals, to read signs and menus, knowing the local language is necessary. You can have real conversations with the people you meet. - Culture - Maybe you're interested in French literature, poetry, films, TV programs, sport or music. - Work - Knowledge of foreign languages may also increase your chances of finding a new job, getting a promotion or a transfer overseas, or of going on foreign business trips. - Challenge - Maybe you enjoy the challenge of learning foreign languages. Summary of course content For French, we follow the AQA specification for A level. You can see the full specification here: http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/languages/as-and-a-level/french-7652 At A Level the four key skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing are all assessed (see specification) A Level topic areas: - Aspects of French-speaking society: current trends - Artistic culture in the French-speaking world - Aspects of French-speaking society: current issues - Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world In addition to the lessons all students get a session with the language assistant to develop their oral and aural skills. Skills acquired Students will learn to communicate confidently through both the spoken and written word and they will be expected to have studied closely the grammatical system and structures of the French language.
