Further Mathematics develops (and is dependent on) the study of pure and applied mathematics begun at A Level Mathematics. It is intended for those with a particular interest in and aptitude for the subject, and is recommended for those who intend to study Mathematics at University. Those with an interest in engineering, physics and natural sciences will also find the course particularly useful. All students wishing to study Further Mathematics will be required to choose Mathematics as two of their options in Year 12. By the end of Year 12 they will have an AS in Mathematics (C1C2 M1) and an AS in Further Mathematics (FP1, D1 and M2). FP1 is Further Pure 1 and D1 is Discrete Maths 1. If they wish to take A Level Further Maths, they will still need to choose Mathematics as two of their options in Year 13. They will study FP2, FP3 and M3 in Year 13.
