This course introduces students to the basic principles and methods of family history research. It is ideal for those who wish to begin the fascinating journey of discovering who their ancestors were where they came from and what they did.By the end of the course you will be able toDescribe and demonstrate the basic process in family history research and the importance of evidence. Describe the difference between primary and secondary sources Investigate and interpret documents relating to birth marriage and death before and after 1837. Accurately locate census records relating to your family. Appreciate what these different sources can tell you about your ancestors. Demonstrate the use various online resources for family history research. Search for and use sources that are no online. Plan organise and document your researchFor the first session you will need to buy/bring: A pencil and notebook Any details you have relating to the family members you are interested in researching.
