The AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting covers a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. Students will learn and master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT issues in business, management accounting costing techniques, ethical practices for accountants and spreadsheet software skills. This qualification comprises six mandatory units: -Advanced Bookkeeping -Final Accounts Preparation -Management Accounting: Costing -Indirect Tax -Ethics for Accountants -Spreadsheets for Accounting The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that students are well prepared to progress into a business, finance or professional accountancy career or into further education. Work experience placements will require students to plan and organise their own placement and travel arrangements. This is part of the necessary development and preparation for employment. All students under the age of 19 at the start of the course without an A*-C / 9-4 grade in English and Maths will be required as a condition of the programme to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programmeThe course is delivered in college over three days during term-time. Delivery is through a blend of tutor led sessions and independent study supported by tutorials and course materials through the colleges virtual learning environment. Significant commitment to independent study is required to supplement and consolidate learning. Units are assessed individually in end-of-unit computer-based assessments, as well as a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.
