Level 2 Public Services

The Level 2 programme is made up of a variety of theoretical and practical units covering subjects such as teamwork, communications, employment skills, health and fitness , navigation and equality & diversity. During the programme you will have direct contact with a range of uniformed public services through presentations, visits and activities. Recent examples include a day with the Royal Marines, drill with the Army, a day at Eastleigh Fire Station as well as talks from the Royal Navy and the local PCSO. All students without grade A*-C / 9-4 in English or Maths will undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme. The pathway followed will be dependent on the grade achieved at GCSE and college diagnostic screening.You will be assessed by completing a portfolio of evidence through a variety of different assessment methods such as written work, observations, discussions and practical demonstrations. Hours will be timetabled between 08.45 - 16.30 over four days per week, however these may change when offsite activities are taking place. You need to be prepared to take an active role in a variety of outdoor and team activities, as well as classroom based learning throughout the year. Most of your coursework will be carried out in class but there will also be the need to complete some tasks in your own time.Careers in the industry are very popular and therefore the job market is very competitive. Recent changes have opened up increased opportunities for part-time employment within the armed forces due to the increase of Reservists. Police officer roles are often selected from internal staff and therefore entry requires prior experience such as that of a Special Constable or PCSO. Fire and Rescue Service jobs are more readily available through the part time retained duty system or full time within larger cities.
