This two year programme offers progression from the Subsidiary Diploma through to the Extended Diploma, dependent on your entry grades and achievement in Year One. The core topics include The UK as a Destination; The Business of Travel and Tourism and Investigating Travel and Tourism. Further units include Holiday Representatives; Long Haul Travel; The UK Aviation Industry and The Cruise Sector. Work experience will be carried out in the Colleges ABTA bonded Travel Shop which is open to staff, students and members of the public.Teaching and assessment methods vary and will include lectures, practical demonstrations, short tests, written assignments, research projects amongst others. Typically, you will attend college for approximately 15-16 hours per week and you will be expected to complete homework. Year One students will be interviewed to determine their suitability to progress to the Extended Diploma.Travel and Tourism is a growing sector of the UK and world economy and therefore job opportunities in travel are almost limitless. This programme would be suitable for anyone seeking to work in this exciting industry. The potential job roles include travel representative, cabin crew, travel agent, customer service at airports, working on cruise ships or for cruise companies, and a whole lot more. Previous Eastleigh College travel students have gone on to work for Carnival Cruises, British Airways, Swissport, Bath Travel, Thomas Cook and Thomson amongst others. Eastleigh College has links with Swissport at Southampton Airport who accepts approximately six students on work experience each year. Most of the students are offered a contract on completion of their work experience. The programme carries UCAS points for those wishing to progress on to university.
