This two year programme offers progression from the Subsidiary Diploma through to the Extended Diploma, dependent on your entry grades and achievement in Year One. Year One Indicative units: Level 3 Edexcel BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science -Fundamentals of science -Working in the science industry -Scientific practical techniques Plus further units for example; -Chemistry for biology technicians -Using statistics in Science -Informatics in Science -Perception of Science -Using Mathematical tools in Science -Mathematical calculations for Science -Clinical psychology -Genetics and genetic engineering Year Two Indicative units: Level 3 Edexcel BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science Plus further units, for example: -Biochemistry and biochemical techniques -Scientific investigations -Microbiological techniques -Practical chemical analysis -Medical physics techniques -Physiology of human body systems -Physiology of human reg. and reproduction -Diseases and infections -Chemical laboratory techniques Students without a GCSE at grade A*-C in English or Maths will be required to continue study in this area either through GCSEs or Functional Skills. The pathway followed is dependent on the grade achieved at GCSE, screening and intended progress.You will be timetabled in college for four days each week. Hours will in general be from 08:45-16:30, however these may change if offsite activities are taking place. Activities have included visits to Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Winchester Universities, and local laboratories. This timetable allows plenty of time to complete your assessments and approximately seven hours per week will need to be put aside for independent study to complete assignments.
