Religious Studies is of interest to students wishing to build up on what they have learned at GCSE level. The course is of considerable valve in its own right and may complement and balance choices in other subject areas. The OCR specification offers an academic approach to the study of religion and is accessible to candidates of any religious persuasion or none. The course encourages stents to: • Develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, a rigorous study of religion and its relation to the wider world • Treat the subject as an academic discipline by developing knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to a specialist study of religion • Adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the study of religion • Reflect on and develop their own valves, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning Philosophy of Religion, you will study, The cosmological argument, Religious Experience, Psychology & Religion, Atheism & Postmodernism. In year 13 you will study an in-depth study of religious experience. Hinduism As - Origins of Hinduism, Core concepts i.e. monism, monotheism, polytheism, karma, moksha, samsara, Brahman, worship, Deities. AS Level - Key concepts of liberation, the Advaita Vedanta of Sankara, the importance of scriptures i.e. the Vedas, the Bhagavad Gita. Meditation and yoga. The religious thoughts and influence of Gandhi, Arya Samaj and Brahmo Samai. The development of Hinduism in the west.
