Psychology A Level

UPDATED 20161007 14:33:32

Psychology is an excellent area of study for anyone who is interested in trying to understand the very complex reasons behind human behaviour. Whether you end up as a teacher, health care professional, police officer, entrepreneur, social worker or full time parent, it is difficult to think of a career that does not benefit from some understanding of psychology. You will develop the scientific skills required to design research and think critically about how to gather data on human behaviour. You will develop the numeracy skills required to interpret and present research findings, including testing data for statistical significance. You will also develop essay writing skills, learning how to select and use research findings to develop an argument. Perhaps most importantly, we hope that you develop a deeper understanding of how and why we are all different in a way that enables you to bring the best out in yourself and the people around you. A Level Psychology is broken down into different areas of study including: Social Psychology: the influence of others including obedience and peer pressure; Attachment: the influence of our very early experiences and attachments in infancy; Biopsychology: the shape and structure of our brains, the role of neurotransmitters; Psychopathology: mental illness; causes and treatments; Relationships: what do successful relationships look like. What is love.
