The Biology course at Heckmondwike Grammar School is very popular, and students are taught by a team of eight experienced, knowledgeable and supportive teachers. Students are taught in well-equipped labs and will be carrying out a lot of practical work, including a field trip.
Name: Biology Qualification title: Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Biology B 9BI0 Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment For the A level qualification there are three exam papers (6 hours altogether) sat at the end of Y13. These exam papers cover the whole two year A level course and are fully synoptic i.e. each exam paper covers the whole course. There is no practical assessment or coursework in the A level qualification, but knowledge of the scientific method is assessed through questions in the exams. 15% of the exam marks will asses practical knowledge. In addition, all practical work will contribute towards a separate practical endorsement, which is given on the results certificate for those who demonstrate sufficient overall competency in practical work in biology.
