This course examines the nature and functions of language through looking at its structures in writing, speech and conversation, seeing how it is used in different social contexts. In the second year, students examine how the key constituent parts of language have developed under the influence of a variety of contextual factors and how these changes may be analysed and evaluated. This course also offers a creative component as well as exploring how Language develops over time and how children learn language.
