English Literature

UPDATED 20161007 09:01:19

The course comprises three units: Drama and poetry pre-1900: you will explore Shakespeare's stage and consider the social, cultural and historical influences of other classic works such as Ibsen and Rossetti. Comparative and contextual study: you will delve into the depths of a literary genre, such as Gothic Literature, and chart the genre's development from its origins to the modern day. Literature post-1900: you will develop your independent reading and enhance debate and essay writing skills with a portfolio of coursework based on modern texts. To enrich your studies, you may have the opportunity to experience live performances through theatre trips and screenings, as well as visits to exhibitions and seminars, as and when available.
