AS Level Computing. You will be interested what goes on in computers and in how algorithms are designed and implemented to solve problems. You will be a logical thinker and be systematic in the way you approach problems. Students often progress to a computing or technical degree and follow a technical career in the computer industry, business or engineering. You will study how a computer stores and manipulates data. You'll discuss typical uses of computer systems and the implications of introducing the technology. You will cover the stages in the development of a computerised solution to a problem and you will analyse a problem and design, implement, test and document a solution. You will study: the binary representation of data, logical operations, data structures, programming techniques, the operating system, data transmission and communication, databases, data security and disaster planning. You will learn though a mixture of formal teaching and hands-on work. You will work using modern technologies and tools to prepare you both for written examinations and practical assessment.
