You will study aspects of each of three main areas of chemistry; organic, inorganic and physical. The topics introduced in year 1 include the study of different organic molecules and the ways in which they react as well as explaining their physical properties. You will also develop a greater depth of understanding of patterns and trends in the periodic table and link together atomic structure with bonding as well as studying chemical equilibria and redox reactions. Practical and investigative skills also form a large part of this year.
