The A Level Chemistry qualification is ideal for those who wish to continue with the study of Chemistry. The course builds upon existing GCSE chemical concepts and is divided into topics, each of which contains different chemical concepts. The topics covered include atoms, elements, bonding, energetics, resources and the development of periodic groups. The aim of this course is to encourage students to extend their interest and enthusiasm for Chemistry and to develop a real appreciation of how science works. The course explores the subject mathematically as well as conceptually and throughout the year students will be taught, and acquire competence in a number of mathematical fields. These include arithmetic, numerical computation, algebra, data handling and trigonometry. Students wishing to study A Level Chemistry should have a natural curiosity about the world and a willingness to search for answers through laboratory investigations and independent research. Applicants will also need a strong mathematical background.
