Law affects all of our lives. This course aims to help you understand, explain and analyse the English legal system. By highlighting recent and planned reforms, you will be able to debate and discuss your views on topical issues. This is a particularly good course if you have strong analytical skills and writing ability. In the first year you will study two modules. The first module, the English Legal System, involves looking at topics such as: - The Jury System - The Court Structure - Judges, Solicitors and Barristers - Police Powers The second module, Sources of Law, looks at where the law comes from and how it is created. The second year of the qualification will build on existing course knowledge and cover criminal law. An in-depth study of one aspect of criminal law will be undertaken as part of the course and students will cover areas including: - Murder - Manslaughter - Theft - Robbery - Burglary - Fatal and non-fatal offences
