A Level English Literature

UPDATED 20161005 15:10:21

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your interest in literary studies through reading widely, independently and critically. You will examine the traditions of English literary texts spanning from the fourteenth century to present day in both a creative and enjoyable way. During the course you will explore how writers tell stories by analysing aspects of their narratives and you will be encouraged to evaluate your own responses to texts through the interpretations of other readers. As part of the coursework module, you will be able to study the dramatic genres of tragedy and comedy, and will focus on a number of texts including a Shakespeare play. In preparation for university style assessments, you will also construct your own personal piece and will choose a text to discuss. In addition, English Literature will broaden and develop your knowledge and understanding of gothic literature, thus enabling you to explore the elements of this genre.
