Part-time functional skills English application

We offer a range of qualifications which will help you to progress towards a Functional Skills qualification in English.  We cater for all levels up to Level 2: (Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2).   A pass in the Level 2 Functional Skills qualification will qualify you to enrol onto our GCSE English course in Sept 2017. You can start all of our courses (except GCSE) at any time between September 2016 and April 2017. All day time classes: are available every Friday during term time in Trowbridge, Chippenham and Salisbury.  Entry level learners are taught for one hour from 11.15 to 12.15 with an opportunity to continue with independent study in our well- equipped Learner Resource Centres (LRC).  Level 1 and 2 learners have two hours in the classroom from 12.45 to 14.45. Classes are available on Tuesday mornings in Warminster and on Wednesday mornings in Devizes.  Entry level learners are taught for one hour from 9.15 to 10.15 and Level 1 and 2 learners have two hours in the classroom  from 10.30 – 12.30. Evening classes: (18.00 to 20.00) are available in Trowbridge on Mondays; in Salisbury on Tuesdays; in Devizes and Chippenham on Thursdays.  These classes cater for learners at Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. Distance Learning option: You can study at home or at work with access to our distance learning on-line materials.  You will be assigned a course tutor who will support you on a one-to-one basis.  There will also be a requirement to attend group tutorials, exam practice and exams sittings at one of our designated campuses during your period of study. These courses are free of charge if you do not already hold a Level 2 equivalent or C grade or above in GCSE English.

Name: Part-time functional skills English application Qualification title: - Qualification type: Functional skill Assessment The full Functional skills qualifications for English include:   Speaking, listening and Communication assessments (marked by your tutor) and A Reading and a Writing exam which are sent to the examinations board for marking. Taught classes: You will be expected to attend the sessions regularly and be encouraged to develop your English communication skills through speaking and listening, reading and writing.  You will also be introduced to a range of e-learning facilities to support your development and there will be an expectation for you to complete work outside the classroom ( ‘homework’). Class assessments will be held on a regular basis and these will be designed to develop your skills and fully prepare you for the formal assessments which are required in order for you to gain awards and/or certificates.  All formal assessments take place during class time and are available throughout the period of study. Distance Learning: You will be expected to complete weekly assignments using the e-learning facilities and maintain regular contact with your tutor who will be monitoring your progress throughout the programme of study.  There will also be a requirement to attend group tutorials, exam practice and exams sittings at one of our designated campuses during your period of study (minimum of 10 hours).  Dates for these will be agreed with you during your study. Entry requirements

The course is free of charge to those of you who do not already hold a Level 2 equivalent or C grade or above at GCSE. You will be required to provide your own stationery and a dictionary - no special edition but something larger than a pocket dictionary is advisable.
