A Level Economics

UPDATED 20161005 09:32:23

When you are studying A Level Economics you will encounter six modules spread out across the two years of the course, known as a modular structure. These units encompass all subjects associated with economics in order to give you the broadest knowledge possible. Subjects you will cover with A Level Economics include the market system, market failure and government intervention, the national and international economy, economics of work and leisure, the UK economy, economics in a European context. Upon successful completion of these A Level economics units you will be assessed via examination, with a paper for each unit except economics in a European context, which is the coursework you will work on throughout the second year. Once the A Level economics course is complete you should be armed with a sound knowledge of how the economics system works, which is essential for UK citizens. In A Level Economics you will look at the fundamental forces which affect our lives, such as employment, prices, international trade and poverty. Economists are often in healthy debate with each other over these issues. It is this controversy which makes Economics lively and interesting and which allows you the opportunity to make your own judgements and form your own opinions. There are several definitions of economics, with each trying to encapsulate the essence of the subject. However, most textbooks seem to agree that economics concerns the allocation of society’s scarce resources amongst the many alternative uses to which they could be put.
