The opportunities for students of Science, on completion of full-time education, are enormous. There are many possible careers within the scienti?c world and quali?cations in Science subjects are acceptable as an entry into many other careers. Science students at Madeley Academy are currently preparing to move into Higher Education Courses and careers in the following ?elds: Electronic Engineering, Forensic Scienc, Nursing, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Biochemical Science, Environmental Chemistry, Pharmacy and Computing. The Science courses are designed to provide academic and vocational experiences. They will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and Higher Education. You will complete three mandatory units: Unit 1 Principles and Applications of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Unit 2 Practical Scientific Techniques, Unit 3 Science Investigation Skills. A minimum of 40% of the course is externally assessed within units 1 and 3 in the form of an externally assessed exam and practical assessment. Unit 2 allows students to develop practical skills such as calibration, chromatography, calorimetry and laboratory safety and is assessed through internally moderated assessments.
