UPDATED 20161004 12:16:05

Mathematics is amongst the most fascinating of intellectual disciplines. It has a very long and illustrious history and by studying mathematics you will be introduced to some of the most important thinking that people have undertaken. Each course comprises six modules - 4 core modules and 2 applied modules. Core Mathematics Core Mathematics closely examines topics such as algebra, trigonometry and geometry, which you will be familiar with from GCSE. You will extend your skills in these topics and be introduced to others which will be new to you, such as calculus which is one of the most important areas of mathematics. Maths with Mechanics In Mechanics you will develop the skill of Mathematical modelling, which means using Maths to try to describe what happens in the real world. You will therefore solve problems concerning the motion of objects and how they respond to the various forces acting upon them. Mathematics is a highly rewarding subject. You will be challenged by the course, but if you enjoy the challenge of problem solving and feel a satisfaction from knowing that you've reached the solution to a problem, then math's might be the course for you. Over time you will begin to appreciate the elegance and beauty of the subject. Mathematics is a highly regarded discipline and universities and employers place a high value on A-level Maths. It is important that you carefully consider which course is best for you. If you are thinking of studying Biology or Chemistry, Geography, Psychology or Sociology, then Maths with Statistics is highly appropriate, since all of these subjects require the analysis of patterns using statistical techniques. Maths with mechanics is also highly suitable for science students and complements physics particularly well. If you are thinking of a career in medicine, architecture, accountancy, business, actuarial work, engineering or scientific research, then a background in mathematics will be extremely beneficial to you.
