A LEVEL GEOGRAPHY This is a diverse subject that uniquely combines skills from both the arts and sciences. Geography develops the ability to combine scientific principles with economic awareness, environmental concern and an appreciation and tolerance of other’s attitudes. In year 12 and 13 we study: -Water and carbon cycles -Coastal systems and landscapes -Hazards -Global systems and global governance -Changing places -Contemporary urban environments -Students complete an individual investigation which includes data collected in the field • Fieldwork continues to be a compulsory element of the course, with a residential visit planned in the spring term of year 12. • Emphasis is placed upon equipping students with the knowledge and skills to take a proactive role in managing and changing the world in which they live. • A wide variety of teaching methods are used including group activities, use of ICT and regular exam practice. Assessment of units is by written examination. Geography is open to students who enjoyed the subject at GCSE and achieved an A*-B grade. • Geographers develop a wide range of the key skills that employers are looking for such as data collection and analysis, independent research and communication skills. • Careers include town planning, environmental management and tourism. • Geography graduates consistently enter a wider range of careers than any other graduate • Geography graduates are more likely to enter a professional career within 1 year of graduation than any other non-vocational graduate.
