This dynamic hands-on course is geared to school leavers and mature students who are looking for a career in the technical and production side of the entertainment industry; including theatre; clubs; cruise ships; holiday centres and public performance events. Our goal is to make the training as practical as possible; so that students get really involved in the planning and operation of lighting; sound; stage management; set design and construction; and scenic painting. The course includes elements of Health and Safety; Risk Assessment and the legal aspects of public performance. As well as allowing young people to acquire new and valuable skills; the course has strong connections with the local theatre companies and is regularly asked to assist them in all aspects of theatre productions. This year our students have been involved with productions at the Nuffield Theatre; the Point at Eastleigh; Chichester Festival Theatre; the New Theatre Royal and the Kings Theatre; Portsmouth and the Theatre Royal; Winchester. In addition students work on different types of public performance; such as Son et Lumiere; live concert sound and lighting; festivals; conferences; and public events. By forging such strong local links; our students are often offered employment in their chosen area at the end of the course; although some choose to continue their studies at University or specialist higher education establishments such as RADA; the Royal Welsh Academy of Music and Drama; Central School of Speech and Drama; and the Rose Bruford College
