What is it? Engineering is the application of scientific knowledge to solving problems in the real world. Engineering enables technical understanding to come to life through problem solving, designing and building. What will I study? In your first year you will study: health and safety; mathematics for engineering technicians; mechanical principles and application; electrical and electronic principals; technical drawings and properties of engineering materials. In your second year you will study: communications for engineering technicians; an engineering project; further mechanical principles; principles and applications of fluid mechanics and further mathematics for engineering technicians. Exclusively for the triple course. Engineering design. CAD for engineering technicians. Forming processes. Mechanical measurement for inspection techniques. Engineering secondary and finishing techniques. Electronic circuit design and manufacture. Assessment. Assessment will mainly be through internally assessed coursework. Where does it lead? You will be able to progress from this course to study engineering at many universities or work in the engineering and technology sector. The course is a good preparation for employment in a wide variety of technical roles, in a very diverse range of careers such as aerospace and defence; energy; instrumentation; manufacturing; oil and gas industries, the environment and utilities.
