What is it? Extend handling data and probability topics from GCSE and develop a deeper understanding of how to accurately analyse and interpret data. Critically evaluate methods and give conclusions to real life problems. What will I study? Understanding statistics is a vital part of many professions such as management and healthcare. This course builds upon the data-handling topics you have studied as part of your Maths GCSE. You should seriously consider Statistics if you enjoy analysing and presenting data. Although it is a challenging subject, it is also extremely rewarding. Whilst studying Statistics at Blackpool Sixth you will learn to make sense of statistical information which will help you with the decisions you make in the future. There is very little algebra content which would suit students who prefered the numeracy and data topics from GCSE mathematics. First year. Probability and correlation Sampling and hypothesis testing. The binomial, poisson and normal distributions. Second year. Confidence intervals. Approximating distributions. Goodness of fit tests ANOVA and control charts. Assessment.100% examination. Where does it lead? Having knowledge of statistical techniques is highly regarded by employers and universities. The skills acquired during your A Level Statistics course will be very useful to those wishing to studying psychology, biology, business studies, marketing or geography at university. However it must be noted that A-level statistics is not a suitable course for those wishing to do a degree in the subject. In this case A-level mathematics is preferred.
