What is it? Through studying A Level Chemistry, you can develop many transferable skills including problem solving, numeracy and a range of laboratory skills, as well as the development of a broader scientific background. Specific requirements: GCSE Core and Additional Science (higher tier) at grade BB or above, or GCSE Chemistry and Biology or Physics (grade B or above), with GCSE Maths (number 6 or above). We strongly advise you to take another science and/or maths alongside this course. What will I study? Atomic structure and bonding, Amount of substance, Energetics and kinetics, Chemical equilibria, REDOX reactions, Group 2 and 7 reactions, Organic chemistry, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium constant, Electrochemical cells, Acids and bases and pH, Transition metals, Isomerism, Aromatic chemistry, Chemistry of amines and amino acids, Spectroscopy. Where does it lead? Chemistry is accepted by many universities as a valuable A Level. It can lead to careers in medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, pharmacy, geology, engineering, environmental science and many others. Many students with a chemistry degree also go on to careers in IT and finance and generally achieve higher than average starting salaries.
