What is it? This course explores several media and disciplines including mixed media, plaster, wire, latex, fabric, embroidery, printmaking, sculpture, wearable art and installation. Contemporary and historical practitioners underpin your development. What will I study? All projects are tailored and personalised, students are encouraged to explore and develop their ideas through guided and independent study. Students have access to the studios where they gain extra guidance from teachers and support plans are provided to promote and improve achievement and organisation. During your first year you will build skills in the following areas; experimental printing and dying techniques, fabric manipulation, free machine embroidery, garment construction, mixed media, sculpture, and photography. Assessment? 60% coursework portfolio; 40% practical exam project undertaken over several weeks. Assessment is based on sketchbook and developmental work, including work produced in the 15-hour practical exam. Where does it lead? Students successfully progress to university places in a variety of textile-based areas, including; print maker, surface pattern designer, fashion design, interior design, clothing/textile technologist, retail buyer, museum/gallery conservator, industrial/product designer, teacher.
