The BTEC BUSINESS NATIONAL course is a Level 3 course designed to provide specialist work related qualification. This course will provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare them for employment. This National Award provides the underpinning knowledge and understanding for students aspiring to follow careers such as Administration, Self-employment, Human Resources, Marketing, Accountancy, Retail, management and many more. The course is made up of 180 GLH for the Certificate, equivalent to 0.5 of an A Level, this has two mandatory units, of which 1 is external. 360 GLH for the Extended Certificate, equivalent to one A Level. 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external. 510 GLH for the Foundation Diploma. Equivalent in size to 1.5, A Levels. 6 units of which 4 are mandatory and 2 are external. 720 GLH for the Diploma, Equivalent in size to two A Levels. 8 units of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are external. All courses are based over a 2 year period. Assessments are made through portfolio work and assignments completed in relation to specific tasks and studies, plus external units set by the exam board.
