A Level Art and Design comprises of two units at AS level and two units at A2 Level. At A2 level students will again study two units, unit one is a Personal Investigation in which students select a theme within Art and Design that inspires them and will enhance their practical strengths within their chosen Art genre. Students are given the freedom to select their own theme and explore ideas, media and techniques with staff guidance, technical support and feedback. Students will produce a portfolio that shows that they have researched and explored their chosen theme and created their own unique pieces of artwork that explore the theme personally. Students will be required to include a written element to their personal investigation of 3000 words related to the theme they are exploring. Unit two is the set task unit similar to that of AS level, the set task will comprise of research, investigation and creating artworks that show a culmination of students practical skills, creativity and understanding of their selected theme. Students work will be displayed for moderation as an exhibition, students will be expected to be support with organising and setting this up. This course is suitable for students who wish to learn more about Art and Design, express themselves creatively and refine their artistic skills. If completed successfully the course will give students the practical skills, knowledge and understanding of Art and Design to move onto studying Art and Design related subjects at Higher Education level.
