Mathematics A2

UPDATED 20161003 09:46:54

Two thirds of the course is 'Core Maths'. This is the 'doing part' of the subject. Areas covered include coordinate geometry, calculus and trigonometry. The work begins where GCSE finishes. One third of the course is an 'application module'. A choice of applied modules is available: Decision Maths, Mechanics and Statistics are offered. Decision Maths involves mathematically modelling real-life situations to find, using set techniques, the solution of such problems. Mechanics is concerned with such concepts as velocity, acceleration, force, and momentum. Students studying both Maths and Physics find Mechanics helpful. Statistics is concerned with data handling, probability, developing on to probability distributions, correlation and regression.
