They will demonstrate their understanding of the formal elements and creative skills and give visual form to thinking, feeling, observation, design and ideas. They will try to extend their own and others? ways of seeing the world and make personal responses to a theme. Students can choose to work in one or more disciplines within the unendorsed course such as painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture and we encourage an interdisciplinary approach to working, combining skills and developing creativity. In the second year students will research and present a contextual study which links to their practical work. Contextual understanding should be communicated through integrated images and texts that include a written element of no less than 1000 words. We expect independent working to become part of the students? work ethic at this level and it is expected that students spend up to 5 hours working on self-directed study each week.
