The AS represents a ‘stand-alone’ qualification which comprises only one ‘Controlled Assignment’ unit (100%) set by the examination board. This externally set task has a pre-release paper in January of Year 12 and concludes with a 10-hour examination in April of Year 12. It is not necessary to acquire the AS qualification for the A-level award, however artwork produced in this exam and the preparatory studies may be submitted as part of the ‘Personal Investigation’ unit for the full A-level (60%).
