GCE A Level in Biology

UPDATED 20160923 11:33:04

This subject covers fundamental biological principles such as human health, animal and plant systems. It is particularly suitable for who may be considering a career in scientific or medical profession and is never far from the headlines. The human genome has been sequenced and we know the complete arrangement of the three thousand million bases that make up human DNA. In Kenya 350 people die every day from AIDS and in South East Asia the skies are dark with smoke as the last Bornean rainforests are burned to grow oil palms. Biologists are concerned with all these issues. They work in the fields of cell biology, medicine, food production and ecology. The work they do is vital to us all. Whilst studying this subject you will learn about disease, ecosystems and the variety of living organisms from bacteria to mammoths. There will be opportunity for field-work outside of school and possible residential visits.
