Philosophy of Religion: What are the arguments for and against the existence of God? If there is no God, then how did the universe begin? If there is a God, then why does pain exist? We will study various responses to these questions. This section will look at the following areas: - The Cosmological Argument - The Teleological Argument - Miracles - Evil and Suffering Ethics: What makes an action moral or not? Is morality dependent on religion, independent of religion or opposed to religion? These are the main questions addressed in Ethics in year 12. This section of the course looks at the following units: - Religion and morality - Utilitarianism - Situation Ethics - Sexual Ethics Philosophy of Religion: This unit will further investigate the arguments for and against the existence of God, for instance if God is the God of Classical Theism, what does that mean for the world of Philosophy? Why do people believe in God? Is there life after death? This section will focus on: - The Ontological Argument - Life After Death - Religious Experience - Critiques of Belief - Religious Language Ethics: This unit will focus on the study of morality, and what it means to be a 'good' person or do a 'good' action. Are some actions always good or bad, or is all morality subjective? This section will focus on: - Justice, Law and Punishment - Ethical Language - Objectivity, Relativism and Subjectivism - Religion and Morality - Deontology, Natural Moral Law and Virtue Ethics
