Learners on this course study the basics of healthy eating, cooking and nutrition. Topics covered include food hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen, nutrition, food groups, food allergies, and food labels. Learners also learn practical cooking skills and put them into practice. The course also aims to give learners the opportunity to practice and improve some practical English and Maths skills related to cooking and nutrition By the end of the course you will able to: • describe a healthy balanced diet • cook a variety of tasty, healthy foods • estimate the cost per portion of the food you cook • read and understand food labels • list some food allergies and their effects • understand that food restrictions affect the diets of religious and cultural groups
