This course will enable you to enjoy and appreciate film and its cultural value and to understand that the role film plays in our daily lives and the lives of others. You will develop a critical understanding of film through film texts, concepts, and historical perspectives by creatively applying practical skills and you will be able to explore production processes, technologies, and contexts. You will study contemporary English language film and also investigate the role of the cinema in film. This unit is assessed by a written examination which carries 60% of the marks for the first year. You will also produce a foundation portfolio in film, carrying 40% of the marks for the first year. In Year 2, you will investigate global cinema and undertake a creative investigation in film and a written examination, each worth 50% of the marks for the second year. On this course, you will get the opportunity to experience the world of film production through project and portfolio work. Visits to film studios will also provide the opportunity to observe working processes in the film industry.
