Lip-reading for Beginners

The course is an 8 week introductory course. Topics covered may include: - Recognition of some of the clearer lip shapes. - Coping strategies - how to help yourself. - Learning about types of hearing loss, hearing aids and other equipment. - The Manual Alphabet. - Learning about local and national helping agencies. - Increased confidence when communicating and knowledge of communication tactics. - An understanding of the basic principles of lip-reading. - A greater understanding of hearing loss. - An awareness of some of the equipment available to help you.The course is held in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. There will be some theory, but mainly practical enjoyable exercises. There is a small amount of homework. There will be some group and pair work with fellow students and written work with exercises quizzes/stories etc.Students can progress to any other Eastleigh College courses that appeal to you. Further Lip-reading courses will be offered to meet demand.
