The Upholstery course will afford students the opportunity to: learn about the traditional tools and materials used in upholstery; prepare pieces of furniture for re-upholstery; learn and carry out the varying stages required to upholster or re-upholster an item. Students will gain the ability to restore a dilapidated item of furniture to its former condition. This is a mixed ability class which aims to introduce students through increasingly challenging projects, to more advanced techniques. A College Certificate will be awarded on request.The tutor will demonstrate frequently; students will then have plenty of time to practice the skills on their item. There is no formal assessment.This class introduces students to the art of Upholstery.

Please bring the project you wish to work on; this needs to be small enough to transport to and from class (e.g. stool, drop in seat), to your first class. Some tools will be required although some are provided. Tools needed include a pin hammer (hammer with a small head), old wide bladed screwdriver, mallet, sharp pair of dressmaking scissors, tape measure and a pair of pinchers.
