Students will work on reading for everyday use and technical information. They will develop their general writing skills including everyday and business writing. They will also work on spelling and punctuation skills, as well as grammar. The course will also help to improve confidence, through discussions and presentations, in speaking, listening and communication. Students will work towards achieving Functional Skills English at entry level 3 and, if appropriate, may progress onto level 1. This award has three components, Writing, Reading, and Speaking, Listening and Communication. It is possible for students, who may need to take a little longer to achieve the Functional Skills awards, to work towards small English awards in the specific areas that they may need. They also work independently on targets that have been identified, discussed and agreed with the course tutor.Students can progress onto the level 1 Functional Skills English course. Alternatively, if they are still working towards their entry awards they can continue to do so.
