The Level 2 programme is made up of a variety of theoretical and practical units covering subjects such as teamwork, communications, employment skills, health and fitness , navigation and adventurous activities. During the programme you will have direct contact with a range of uniformed public services through presentations, visits and activities. Recent examples include a fitness session with the Royal Marines, drill with the Army, casualty extraction exercise with the Fire and Rescue Service, a talk from the Border Force, Firearms and Crash Investigation presentations from the Police and a trip to the Houses of Parliament. All students without grade C or above in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme. The pathway followed will be dependent on the grade achieved at GCSE and college diagnostic screening.This programme leads to a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community. You will be assessed by completing a portfolio of evidence. A variety of different assessment methods will be used e.g. written work, observations, discussions and practical demonstrations. Hours will be timetabled between 08.45 - 16.30 over four days per week, however these may change when offsite activities are taking place. You need to be prepared to take an active role in a variety of outdoor and team activities, as well as classroom based learning throughout the year. Most of your coursework will be carried out in class but there will also be the need to complete some tasks in your own time.Careers in the industry are very popular and therefore the job market is very competitive. Recent changes have opened up increased opportunities for part-time employment within the armed forces due to the increase of Reservists.
